Ex- girlfriend of Wikipedia co-founder auctions his stuff online
We tried, we really did. Surely we could add something snarky, snide, silly, sarcastic, or...(well, one of the other Seven Dwarfs of humor) to this piece, but, alas, we just couldn't come up with anything better than the facts as reported today in the website for Australia's The Age.
It seems that a certain Jimmy Wales is facing the kind of public humiliation usually reserved for defrocked self-righteous demagogues. A co-founder of Wikipedia, Wales used the site last month to tell the world about the ending of his two-year romance with Canadian television personality Rachel Marsden. Failing to heed the "Hell hath no fury" warning of William Congreve (we looked that up on Wikipedia, LOL), Wales incurred the wrath of a woman who once "pleaded guilty to criminally harassing a boyfriend in 2004."
"The bitter backlash came after Wales announced in a statement on Wikipedia that he was 'no longer involved with' Marsden and had only met her in person for the first time in February this year," reports the site.
It seems safe to say that Marsden doesn't take being scorned lightly. She was fired from her job as a Fox News Channel commentator last year and given one year's probation in 2004 for criminally harassing her boyfriend following their break-up. Soon after Wales' Wikipedia post, "saucy" instant message transcripts between the two (from happier and, it would seem, hotter, times) found their way onto the Silicon Valley blog Valleywag while some of Wales' clothing has ended up on eBay, with starting prices of just 99-cents. Ouch!
If there is any irony here, it might be that the pair reportedly started dating after Wales personally helped Marsden amend her Wikipedia entry in 2006, which she claimed was wrong and libellous. So, Wales helped Marsden clean up her image. Now it appears that she has returned the favor.
