Big Bopper Casket Auction: "No Go, Baby"

Son of late 50's star has change of heart

Big Bopper fans who hoped to bid for the casket that once held the remains of the dead rock legend will be disappointed to learn they probably won't get the chance, MyFOXHouston reports.

After the Big Bopper's son, J.P. Richardson (who shares that name with his late father) made headlines this weekend by saying he might put the casket up for bid on eBay, he is now changing his tune to say the odds that an actual auction would ever take place are about 100 to 1.

According to Richardson, the auction was just one of several scenarios of what he planned to do with the exhumed casket.

It was nearly 50 years ago when theBig Bopper was killed in a plane crash on Feb. 3, 1959, along with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens.

He was reburied in a new casket in 2007, MyFOXHouston said.

Other options of what to do with the casket include donating it to a museum, compressing it with a heavy-duty crusher or taking it out in a boat and dropping it into the ocean.

It is currently on display at the Texas Musicians Museum.
