British Man to Auction Batmobile Replica Today

Modified '73 Lincoln made to look like TV show car

On the very same weekend when the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction gets underway in Scottsdale comes this very odd bit from United Press International:

A British man says he is placing a Batmobile replica up for auction after spending a year modifying a Lincoln Continental to look like the famed TV show car.

Mark Perkins of Ascot, England, said he modified the 1973 Lincoln so it looked as close as possible to the vehicle used by the title character in the 1960s U.S. TV series "Batman," The Times of London reported Saturday.

The revamped vehicle comes equipped with a Batphone, a dashboard television and even a rear parachute pod just like the TV original.

Despite the unique vehicle additions, the car remains street-legal, said Perkins, 46.

The replica will be auctioned off at the National Exhibition Center in the British city of Birmingham at an unspecified date.

Perkins only had one small warning for those tempted to purchase the odd ride, The Times reported.

"It's quite a nice drive, but you get some funny looks and it causes chaos whenever you park it," he said.

(No pictures were available as of this afternoon, but we'll keep looking.)
